Where are you From?
I was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Eritrean parents. My family and I moved to Sioux Falls, SD when I was 9 years old and I lived there most of my life. I moved to Chicago to finish my degree in Education and stayed because there is no other city better.
If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would love to go to Eritrea to see family I have never met.
What is one book that everyone must read?
Every man, woman, and child should read “Oh the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss. This book captures the realities of life in simple yet profound ways.
Who was your favorite teacher growing up?
My 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Larsen is the reason why I decided to go into education. I was an ESL student throughout elementary school and I often felt inadequate as a student and a burden to all of my teachers. Mrs. Larsen was the first teacher who encouraged me to do my very best. She had very high expectations for me in class and made sure I met them, even if it meant using her own time. I am forever grateful.
What do you like most about Goudy?
I love watching our students from different backgrounds learn and play together. The world could learn a lot from them.
