Where are you From?
If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would love to to travel to Italy. I am half Italian and we have always celebrated this part of our heritage in our family. My wife and I have been talking about a trip to Italy ever since we got married. I hope to learn a great deal about Italy's culture and pick up a bit of the language while I'm at it.
What is one book that everyone must read?
At some point in their life, everyone should read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. This novel and others like it (1984 by George Orwell, The Giver by Lois Lowry) help us to take a step outside of the society that we live in so that we may examine more critically the direction in which our world is headed.
Who was your favorite teacher growing up?
My favorite teacher was Mr. Weishan, our 8th grade math and science teacher. I remember him because of his ability to blend a sense of humor with high expectations and meaningful learning. He was tough enough to keep the misbehaving students from "running the show" yet savvy enough to earn the respect of all. I distinctly remember him calling me up to the board to teach the other students certain math concepts. Looking back, this experience may have been one of the events that eventually led me to become a teacher myself.
What do you like most about Goudy?
The thing I like most about Goudy is the sense of genuine caring and warmth that exists between the adults and the children. When you spend even a short amount of time at our school, this intangible quality is evident. Students and teachers enjoy coming to Goudy and it really shows. The sense of community that has been created and maintained by our principals and teachers is contagious. Students see the high level of respect that exists among the adults at the school. They also sense how much the adults respect and care about them as individuals. These important factors contribute to the family atmosphere that is becoming our trademark here at Goudy.
