Goudy Technology Magnet Cluster is a proud participant of the Algebra I for Middle Grades Program through the Chicago Math & Science Initiative.
In this program, 8th grade students are enrolled in a high school level algebra course and upon successful completion of the course including passing the final Exit Exam, they will receive high school placement into a geometry class at the beginning of their Freshmen year.
Currently, Algebra and some geometry are required for 75% of all jobs, with the most desirable jobs requiring even more mathematics. All students can succeed in Algebra. However, this success requires considerable effort and support. To support students’ mathematics learning, Goudy is using the Carnegie Learning mathematics program, a computer assisted program using a cognitive tutor designed to help students learn and understand mathematics.
